Dancing in Lansing - SATURDAY! Nov 5
Hi Friend- There is a contra dance this coming Saturday, Nov 5 in Lansing at The Central United Methodist Church- that’s 215 N. Capitol Ave. The band will be “The Banjo Tramps” with Calling by our friend from Kalamazoo, Mike Clark. New dancer intro at 6:30pm- dance is from 7pm-10.
The Ten Pound Fiddle- the sponsor of this dance - is going to follow the pattern we set at r the last dance. Admission will be “Pay what you can” with $15 recommended The scale is from $6 to $20 - (though if you won the lottery and want to go higher, that is OK). We’re trying this through the end of the year and seeing how it works- at the Oct 15 dance we came in just $10 under breaking even- which is pretty good!
Sad to say, Covid19 is still with us; I just heard (on NPR) about new Omicron variants- sigh. Though right now, local numbers are looking pretty good- but not zero. Since this kind of dancing requires such close contact- not to mention breathing really close to your partner’s face, we request that you wear a mask while dancing. However, away from the dance floor you can remove your mask if you’d like
- Everyone must provide proof of vaccination, photo ID and contact info. We hope that you have gotten at least one booster. If you were at earlier dances, we are maintaining a list to help speed up the check in process.
- Masks MUST be worn in the dance hall, except when drinking water.
- individually wrapped snacks are ok this time
- If you are feeling off or SICK- DO NOT Come to the Dance.
As I type this I am coughing and blowing my nose. It appears I have a cold. I have 3 neg. Covid tests, and I’ll check again tomorrow. I will not be joining you all at the dance this week.
The next dance in town will be Sat Nov 19- Caller will be Maeve Devlin with tunes by “Liberty String Band”. Same schedule as above
We are once again planning a New Year’s Eve dance. We are really hoping Covid and flu are under control and we can finally dance in the new year. More details in Dec, but mark your calendar for New Year’s Eve, Sat Dec 31.
Did you ever think about how much money it takes to present one of our dances in Lansing? Depending on band, caller and venue $700 -$800 dollars
We often come out - “in the red”
The easiest solution is- More Dancers. 75-85 people at each dance (at an ave of $13 each) will bring in enough revenue to cover our costs- and give us a little cushion for the future.
-Can you bring a friend to a dance in the next couple months? Note that Mike Clark is really good with new dancers. Ask me to tell you the story sometime.
Sorry this is rather late. We’ve been watching the Covid numbers and it has been a bit of a roller coaster this week
