Dancing in Lansing, this Sat, Oct 1

Hi all - Where the heck did September go?! I swear Labor Day was just a week or so ago. Anyway - there is a dance this Sat night, Oct 1 at Central United Methodist Church (CUMC) - that’s 215 N Capitol Ave in Lansing, MI. The dances will be taught and called by Laurie Pietravalle - and dance tunes will be provided by Tana and the Tall Boys. There will be an intro lesson (or brush-up) for those interested beginning about 6:30pm. The Dance begins at 7pm and will end by 10pm. We are returning to our pre-pandemic pricing- $12 for general public, $10 for members and $6 for students (HS, college etc). Young folks, under 15, get to dance at no charge!

Oh- big traffic change - Capitol Ave is now a two street for part of its length, including by CUMC. It felt so weird at the last dance to park on the East side of the road and be pointed N, not S. Drive with caution as you figure out how it works.

It is membership time for The Ten Pound Fiddle. “The Fiddle” presents contra and square dances throughout the year- and a well known folk concert series. Membership will get you a discount to dances and concerts.
The membership structure is as follow -Individual Membership is $20 or You can choose a -Household membership, or a -Member + 1 membership for $25 Household covers all folks living in one house or apt Member +1 will allow you and a non-member friend (that doesn’t live in the same house) to purchase admission at member price.

You can choose to be a member of The Ten Pound Fiddle, or Looking Glass Music and Arts Association - or both. Both groups appreciate your support.

Sad to say, Covid19 is still with us. Local numbers are steady, but not falling much. Last I looked, Clinton County had one of the highest positive rates in the State. Since this kind of dancing requires such close contact- not to mention breathing really close to your partner’s face, we are continuing the Covid precautions we used in the spring.

  1. Everyone must provide proof of full vaccination (along with a photo ID). We hope that you have gotten at least one booster.
  2. Masks MUST be worn at all times, except when drinking water. Surgical masks are better than cloth masks. N95, or K95 are even better.
  3. Everyone will provide contact information after presenting vaccine credentials — email and phone number. A picture on your phone of your vaccine card is OK
  4. Please don’t bring snacks to share. There will not be snacks at the dance
  5. If you are feeling off or SICK- DO NOT Come to the Dance.

Let’s see, the next dance in Oct will be Sat Oct 15 This dance will also be at CUMC. Our caller will be Rick Szumski and Music will be provided by Askin’ for Trouble Same schedule and pricing as above.

Ann Arbor is planning for Tree Town Stomp Dance Weekend - it will be Oct 21-23 at the Concourse Hall more info at https://aactmad.org/tree-town-stomp (Note that, at least at this point, they are requiring masks. Other upcoming weekends are also requiring masking)

Hope you are doing well and enjoying the beginning of Autumn- looks like this weekend will be warm and lovely. Have a couple projects that I’ve been putting off since May. Now is the time to do them (or they wait another year!)

See you soon, Julie LW
