Dance Comm Picnic, this Sat, Aug 20 - there will be cake!
Hi all- Well, here we are in August - summer, as always, is going fast.
Bulletin - - Bulletin We interrupt this newsletter for a special announcement - this Aug 20 picnic will be a Birthday gathering! Julie Levy-Weston and Abby Eaton have milestone birthdays this summer. Hanno’s birthday is a couple days before the picnic. David Klein is also celebrating, and Tina Kahn let me know her B-day is at the end of the month - So come join us for cake and general merriment.
Bulletin - - END
We’ll gather on the 3rd Sat in Aug- the 20th- for a dance community picnic. We will be meeting at Potter Park in Lansing- (1301 S Pennsylvania Ave) . Bonnie has reserved the “Penguin Cove” pavilion- It is the first shelter, after you drive up the long drive to the park. There is a small parking area right next to Penguin Cove.
NOTE - Part of Pennsylvania Ave is closed - both directions- from Mt. Hope South to Alpha Access (by the old McLaren Ortho Hospital). this is still the case. So you’ll need to approach the park from either Mt. Hope (south of Potter Park) or Kalamazoo St, which is north of Potter Park.
We’ll start to gather about 4:30pm, plan to eat around 5:30, and I hope to have the grill going and ready for any burgers, hot dogs or veggie burgers that you care to bring. Please bring your table setting, and a dish to share- this can be as simple as a bag of chips or you could make a salad or dessert. We’ll provide ketchup, mustard and relish- other fixins will be on your own. We’d also appreciate it if you could bring a few bucks to help cover the cost of reserving the picnic shelter.
Ok- full disclosure - there will be cake! August 20th is the actual anniversary of my birth - and this year is a milestone. We’ll also celebrate Abby Eaton - who hit that same milestone in mid-June, and Hanno has a birthday just a few days before the picnic - cake for everyone! There are likely more summer birthdays we can celebrate as well. So I hope you can come enjoy some birthday cake (there may even be 2!) Please do not feel any need to bring presents (at this point, most of us are in “get rid of stuff” mode)
Potter Park is part of the Ingham County Park system. Residents of Ingham County can drive in and park a car for $3. Those who live outside Ingham pay $5. A yearly park pass is available for $32. Lansing has dozens of lovely parks - maybe a pass would be a good investment for you this year. NOTE - the staffer who collects entrance fees ends their shift between 4:30 and 5pm.
Note - there is no charge to ride your bike into the park and there are bike racks available.
Looking ahead, we are planning for a dance at Central United Methodist Church (215 N Capitol Ave, in Lansing) on Sat Sept 17. New dancer intro/refresher at 6:30pm, dance starts at 7pm and ends at 10pm. Music will be provided by MJM and Bev Bernbaum, visiting from Toronto, will call.
We are still discussing Covid precautions and will look at area new case numbers and guidance from the local health dept, The CDC and CDSS to figure out how we should proceed this fall
Tree Town Stomp Dance Weekend, at Concourse Hall in Ann Arbor, will be happening Oct 21-23. Music by The Free Raisins and the Luke Panning Quintet, Calling by Adina Gordon and Laurie Pietravalle. More info at https://aactmad.org/tree-town-stomp
Hope to see you on Aug 20!
