Dance comm. picnic - Sat July 16 - Potter Park, Lansing

Hi all- What are you doing tomorrow? - Saturday- july 16 If you are in town, I hope you can join us for a picnic at Potter Park (1301 S Pennsylvania Ave*) in Lansing. Bonnie has reserved the “Penguin Cove” pavilion- I think it is the first shelter, (after the entrance booth) after you drive up the long drive to the park. There is a small parking area right next to the Penguin Cove shelter.

We’ll start to gather about 4:30pm, plan to eat around 5:30, and I hope to have at least one grill going and ready for burgers, hot dogs or veggie burgers that you might want to bring. I will also bring grilling utensils. Please bring your table setting, and a dish to share- this can be as simple as a bag of chips or you could make a salad or dessert. We’ll provide ketchup, mustard and relish- other fixins will be on your own. We’d also appreciate it if you could bring a few bucks to help cover the cost of reserving the picnic shelter.

Potter Park is part of the Ingham County Park system. Residents of Ingham county can drive in and park a car for $3. Those who live outside Ingham pay $5. A yearly park pass is available for $32. Lansing has dozens of lovely parks - maybe a pass would be a good investment for you this year.

Note - there is no charge to ride your bike (or walk) into the park and there are bike racks available. Potter park is on the Lansing River Trail- the trail goes right by the shelter we have reserved.

*Road Construction Notes - Last I knew, part of Pennsylvania Ave was closed - both directions- from Mt. Hope South to Alpha Access (by the McClaren Ortho Hospital). So you are approaching from south of Mt. Hope, you’ll need to take some other road North (maybe Cedar), head east on Mt. Hope and then go N on Penn to get to the park.

If you are planning to come from outside of Lansing, 469 is also closed from MLK on the West to about Pennsylvania on the East. Though the “service drives” are open. If I were coming from the West on 496, I’d take the service drive and watch for signs directing me to Pennsylvania- easy right onto Penn and then a left into the park- just south of the railroad bridge.

If you are around, I hope you can join us.
