Dancing in Lansing, Sat May 7

Hi all - It is almost May! and time for another contra dance! We’ll be dancing on Sat, May 7 at Central United Methodist Church (CUMC), 215 N Capitol Ave in Lansing. There will be a new dancer intro at 6:30pm and the dance will begin at 7pm and end at 10.

We’ll feature the calling of Laurie Pietravalle from Grand Rapids, and music by Ann Arbor’s “Big Fun”. In an effort to keep things simple, we are charging everyone the member price of $10. Students $5.

Now - the Covid precautions- (numbers in Mich have been creeping up)

  1. Everyone must provide proof of full vaccination (along with a photo ID). According to current CDC guidelines this means you MUST have gotten a booster if you are eligible to receive one.
  2. Masks MUST be worn at all times, except when drinking water. We will provide straws. Surgical masks are better than cloth masks. N95, or K95 are even better
  3. Everyone will provide contact information after presenting vaccine credentials — email and phone number.
  4. Please don’t bring snacks to share.
  5. If you are SICK- DO NOT Come.

A NOTE- Please, when you are at CUMC, stay on the first floor- if you bring kids with you, please keep them on the first floor as well. The main floor of the Fellowship Hall (and the bathrooms and entrance hall) are the only spaces we are renting for the dance. If I understand the new policies correctly, we are not supposed to be in the carpeted space at the back of the hall, or in the two class rooms on the westside of the Fellowship Hall - thanks for observing these new requests.

We’ve heard the Midland is planning to have a contra dance tomorrow, April 30 - but I’ve been unable to find any info about it. Maybe someone from there will read this and let me know.

Don’t forget you can spend a whole week dancing on the shores of Lake Huron when you attend CDSS Dance and Spice Camp at Camp Cavell, near Lexington, MI. Camp dates are June 18- June 25. More info at https://camp.cdss.org.

I’ve also been asked by the Tree Town Stomp planning committee to let you know that Tree Town Stomp, 2022 is planned for Oct 21-23 at the Concourse Hall in Ann Arbor. There is more info at: https://aactmad.org/tree-town-stomp

Right now, we are planning a dance in Lansing for Saturday, June 18. Caller will be Maeve Devlin with the band to be determined . The dance will be at CUMC and we’ll keep the price at $10 per person - $5 for students.

We hope to host a couple picnics over the summer. More info on that when we know when and where.

Happy Dancing, Julie LW
