Dancing in Lansing, Sat April 2 - Happy Anniversary Steve and Renee!

Hi all - Dancers Steve and Renee Johnson have been married for over 50 years! So to celebrate they are giving our community a dance party featuring the calling of Darlene Underwood- a wonderful caller from Cincinnati- and Music by The Latter Day Lizards- A great band that appears at dance weekends all over the country.
The event will be this Saturday, April 2 at Central United Methodist Church (CUMC), 215 N Capitol Ave in Lansing. For Covid precautions, see below. We’ll enjoy a contra and square dance from 7pm until 10pm, and there will be an intro workshop before this dance. Donations will be accepted at the door and will support future dances in Lansing. This dance is Steve and Renee’s way of celebrating their Anniversary, and sharing with the Community.

Since this fabulous band will be in town, the local dance organizers have decided to host an English Country Dance in the afternoon - starting at 2pm at CUMC. Ray Bantle, from Ann Arbor, will teach and lead the dancing.
Admission to the afternoon dance will also be by donation.

A NOTE- Please, when you are at CUMC, stay on the first floor- if you bring kids with you, please keep them on the first floor as well. The main floor of the Fellowship Hall (and the bathrooms and entrance hall) are the only spaces we are renting for the dance. If I understand the new policies correctly, we are not supposed to be in the carpeted space at the back of the hall, or in the two class rooms on the westside of the Fellowship Hall - thanks for observing these new requests.

Now - the Covid precautions- (Updated April 1)

  1. Everyone must provide proof of full vaccination (along with a photo ID). No exceptions. Boosters are encouraged.
  2. Masks MUST be worn at all times, except when drinking water. We will provide straws. Surgical masks are better than cloth masks. N95, or K95 are even better
  3. Everyone will provide contact information after presenting vaccine credentials — email and phone number.
  4. There will be no snacks. There will be no potluck dinner between the dances.
  5. If you are SICK- DO NOT Come.

As Bob S said, last month - “We know there is some risk. The covid virus is going to be with us forever from now on. We need to learn how to mitigate its effects as we do with flu and live our lives. Being vaccinated and boosted does not prevent one from getting sick, but it does lead to a significantly milder infection. Each individual needs to evaluate their own risk tolerance and decide whether to attend or not. We hope you will come and are looking forward to dancing together again.”

Right now, we are planning to have a regular dance on Sat. May 7. I’ll have more details next time I get in touch.

If you are really missing dancing and want to spend a whole week enjoying music and dance, Country Dance and Song Society Summer Camp Registration is open.

Much more info at - cdss.org

There are 9 camp weeks planned this year. There is even one camp right here in Michigan. Dance, Music and Spice at Camp Cavell, near Lexington on Lake Huron. Dates for 2022 are June 18-25.

Hope you are doing well and staying healthy. Last time I wrote it was looking like Spring, but, darn it! we just got a bit more snow - blerg. Though it looks like temps will be nicer by the middle of the week.

Sad to say I will not be able to attend the dance on the 2nd. I am doing some on-call work again, and that night I will be backstage at the Wharton Center working on Hamilton. I hope you all have a wonderful time dancing, and I hope to see you on the dance floor soon.

Happy Dancing, Julie LW
