Dancing in Lansing, this Sat, Mar 7
Hi- Happy Birthday to Bob Stein! The next dance in town will be the Ten Pound Fiddle Dance on Sat Mar 7. It is very close to Bob Stein’s 85th birthday, so he’s making it a dance party day. All this will be happening at CUMC- 215 N Capitol Ave in Lansing.
There will be an afternoon of English Country dancing beginning a 2pm. Calling will be Gay Fifer- she is in demand for dance events all over the country- and the music will be provided by Big Fun (that’s Brad Battey, Myron Grant and Marty Somberg)
The English dance ends at 5pm and and 5:30 we’ll share a potluck. Bring a dish to share (with serving utensil) and place setting for yourself (though we will have paper and plastic if needed)
We can use the oven for heating up food, but no cooking, please. We’ll also be able to put cold food in the fridge.
The evening will bring the regular 1st Sat contra dance. Gaye will be calling and Big Fun will provide the hot dancing tunes. They like to explore lots of types of danceable music.
New Dancer intro at 6:30pm, Dance 7 -10.
Usual prices- Gen Public $12,
Members of Trad. Dance groups $10 and Students and first time dancers $6.
I’ve attached a flyer to this email if you want to post it at work, or somewhere you frequent.
HEY- it appears that parking in the lot to the north of church is once again OK. For now, it would be good if you stick to the spaces assigned to CUMC (not St. Paul’s or the other church or the catering Co.) The parking ramp/garage is a good option too.
The Looking Glass dance on March 21 is going to be at our ALTERNATE LOCATION- the Dewitt Township/Valley Farms Community Center. 16101 Brook road, Lansing. Caller will be Rick Szumski and the band is The Banjo Tramps New dancer intro at 6:30, Dance 7 -10. Usual pricing- Gen Public, $12 - members $10 - students and first timers $6
(Long story- we requested CUMC for this March 2020 date back in June of 2019. Church said- sorry, theatre is there. Found out a couple months back that Peppermint Creek’s next show is actually in the Dining Room in the basement. but by the time we knew that, the Fellowship Hall had already been booked for a wedding reception- oh well)
Cheryl from Flint let me know that
“There’s going to be a contra dance on March 21, Saturday, from 2 to 4 pm at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc (5005 McCandish Rd.). The dance is open to the general public. There is no entry fee but there will be a “free will offering” to help cover expenses. Ed Vincent will be calling. Most of the dancers will probably be beginners. Ed is planning on doing some family dances as well as contras and maybe a few squares. Flint’s Homegrown Contraband will be playing. "
Again, everyone’s invited. Spread the word!
